Challenge
Mylan’s brief in 2019 was to devise an automation to carefully package a 2 x 2 grid of delicate medical sachets into cartons of 120 units. Our first machine was designed in New Zealand and a further 3 identical ones were built by the RML joint venture in India.
We followed stringent global pharmaceutical standards (21CRF) with careful adherence to product traceability by installing cameras checking barcodes on each carton and ensuring each had a medical guide inserted.
Solution
Individual sachets came down an in-feed into a vision cell to determine their exact location on the belt. An ABB IRB360 Robot then picked 4 sachets in continuous motion from the vacuum conveyor before another plucked cardboard blanks and passed these over a glue head and onto a punch to form the carton.
The same robot then picked 2 cardboard members to form a divider – just the kind of precision performance challenge which RML enjoys!
